Do More of What Brings Him Glory
I was Christmas shopping recently, and started noticing calendars for the new year and other products that read, “Do more of what makes you happy.”
I normally wouldn’t have thought anything about it, but for some reason it rubbed me the wrong way. Doing what makes us happy is not a bad thing, at all. That’s not what I’m saying.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are a lot of things that make me happy. One is that I enjoy writing. It genuinely makes me happy, and fires me up when I feel like the Lord is nudging me to share something.
I certainly can’t put the words together on my own, so when thoughts come to mind I get really excited.
But, if I am writing for myself and not for Him and His glory what’s the point? If I am writing, or doing any of the other things that make me happy, without giving any thought as to how it could potentially point others to Christ then I am missing an opportunity to be His Light.
When I focus only on doing things that make me happy it becomes about me, and not Him.
In 1 Corinthians 10:31 Paul tells us, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
In 1 Peter 4:10 Paul encourages us, “each one should use what ever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in it various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”
Everything we do should be for His glory, not our own.
The Lord is the one Who gives us desires and talents. And if it makes us happy it’s most likely a desire and/or talent He has given us.
And guess what? We can use all of those personal desires and talents to bring glory right back to Him. Find out HERE.
So instead of simply doing what makes us happy, let’s do more of what brings Him glory.
